5 Tips For Great Family Portraits

1. Practice smiling in the mirror.
You'll feel funny doing it, but it's the quickest way to find your best side! (And how wide to grin before you look like your trying too hard.) Parents of youngsters, it's great to do this practice with them. Applaud the nice, relaxed, and happy smile you want them to do at the family photo shoot.

2. Play Your Song
What's a song that you just can't help but tap your toe to? Music is entertaining. A good song gives familiarity in an unfamiliar setting. Ask the professional photographer to have a music player for your photo session so you can bring your tunes.

3. Shoot When You're at Your Best
If your a night owl, don't schedule a sunrise photo shoot. Aim for the time of day that you all are in a good mood, rested, well fed & dressed.

4. Remedy Sour Faces with Laughter
The old saying still rings true "Laughter is the Best Medicine." When a family is feeling stressed during a photo shoot with uncooperative kids, finding humor brings everything back into perspective. Being together, imperfections and all, is beautiful.

5 Give Yourself Something Delightful After a Shoot, Like Ice Cream
Not only does this create fun memories along with your family picture session, it also gives you something to expectantly smile about during.
